IBM Lotus Domino Collaboration Express builds upon IBM Lotus Domino Messaging Express by adding entitlement to IBM Lotus Domino-based applications. Instead of just using e-mail, calendar, and discussion databases, companies can leverage core business applications and truly take advantage of the full power of IBM Lotus Notes and Domino. There is no restriction on the number of applications allowed. Users may use a single IBM Lotus Domino-based solution such as a help desk application, or thousands of applications. The return on investment of an IBM Lotus Domino license purchase can be increased the more the company takes advantage of the power of IBM Lotus Domino as an application platform. Applications can be built by internal development teams or purchased from one of thousands of IBM Business Partners.

Note: Use of IBM Lotus Domino Designer application development software is not included. It must be licensed separately.

IBM Lotus Domino Collaboration Express V8.0 supports an open application infrastructure. This new version will enable you to deploy composite applications in IBM Lotus Notes 8 and extend Web services support, including:

   * IBM Lotus Domino support for composite applications, including the ability to provision composite applications

   * Web services consumer support, which allows IBM Lotus Domino applications to call other Web services

With improved manageability and security features, IBM Lotus Domino Express V8.0 builds on its position as the industry-leading collaboration server software in flexibility, security features, and integrated messaging and collaboration. A few highlights include:

   * Numerous improvements in IBM Lotus Domino domain monitoring, including additional event probes and corrective actions

   * Integration with Tivoli Enterprise Console software

   * Improved AdminP performance and management to increase rename speed

   * Policy management of inbox cleanup to help manage inbox sizes

   * Ability to prevent access to Internet password fields in the IBM Lotus Domino directory

   * Internet account lockout due to password entry failure

   * Support for Red Hat Linux 5

   * Use of IBM DB2 Restricted Enterprise Edition data store on selected server platforms as an alternative to traditional .NSF, enabling relational database access, and queries

There is also improved performance and scalability, such as:

   * "Build on first use" sort order feature that can significantly improve server performance, and help reduce storage costs and I/O requirements
